Pop the cork

Portugal's first "cork hotel" has opened, with repurposed bark used as insulation. The sugar-cube style buildings look effortlessly chic amid the rugged Alentejo landscape, while the 56 suites inside are a masterstroke in minimalism. The Unesco city of Evora is also nearby (ecorkhotel.com).

Med goes East

Club Med has opened its second resort in China, near Guilin, known for its toothy mountain landscape. Activities include a flying trapeze, spa and tai chi (clubmed.co.uk).

Heidi high

Heidi Klein's new High Summer beachwear collection includes prints inspired by Saint Lucia (ocean blue), pictured, and Cancun (bright orange). From £42 (heidiklein.com).

Wales of a time

The family-friendly Croissant Neuf festival takes place near Usk in south-east Wales from 1-11 August, with circus peformers, craft workshops, games, music and more. Day tickets £40 adults, concessions for children (croissantneuf.co.uk).

Country fare

The Hampshire Food Festival starts on Monday, with wine tastings, summer barbecues, farmers markets and special menus at restaurants and hotels across the county running until 4 August (hampshirefare.co.uk).

80

The number of days planned for the "runway enhancement project" at Dubai's main airport next summer. From 1 May to 20 July, around 15 per cent of Emirates departures will be suspended. From the UK, Glasgow loses one of its two daily flights, with fewer onward options to such destinations as Bangkok, the Seychelles and Cape Town.

Taste the White Isle

Former Manumission DJ and chef Sid Shanti has penned a new book, Glorious Ibiza Food (and Music), featuring local recipes and downloadable dinner tracklists from the likes of Groove Armada and Pete Tong; £29.99 (sidshanti.com/en).

Spanish showcase

The gastronomy behind Catalonia's Michelin-starred el Bulli is the focus of a new exhibition at Somerset House, with insights from head chef Ferran Adrià, pictured (5 July to 29 Sept; somersethouse.org.uk).
