Berlin will be illuminated from 9-20 October during the Festival of Lights, when 70 of the German capital's buildings and landmarks will be bathed in multi-coloured lights from 7-11pm each night (festival-of-lights.de).

Wild show

A new luxury resort opens in Ethiopia's Harenna forest next month. The 30-room Bale Mountain Lodge offers excellent wildlife-viewing of endemic species such as Bale monkeys and Ethiopian wolves (balemountainlodge.com).
