Cabin fever

Luxury New Forest hotel and spa, Lime Wood, has added three forest cottages to its inventory. Guests will check into timber-clad cabins with log fires, high-spec kitchenettes, sitting and dining areas and two bedrooms; rental starts at £650 per night (limewood.co.uk).

Chengdu cheaper

The Chinese city is on the map thanks to BA's new route (bit.ly/Cheng48). The new M Hotel Chengdu has an opening rate of 630 Yuan (£65) B&B (millenniumhotels.com).

The price, in sterling, of the Ski Club of Great Britain's new beginner membership. By joining, novice skiers and boarders will be able to access information, one-to-one advice on getting started, and discounts on wintersport holidays and gear for their first year. Capital gains

A 1914 Neoclassical building on High Holborn will be reborn as the Rosewood London on Tuesday, with elegant rooms that start from £266 a night (rosewoodhotels.com).

Icy waters

Antarctic cruise operator Aurora Expeditions is offering the chance to get up close to the region's underwater wildlife. Passengers on its small ship cruises next February and in 2015 will be able to join snorkelling trips (auroraexpeditions.com.au).

Prospero's shell

Antler's newest luggage range is the hard-shell Prospero. The cases come in two sizes and four colours, with exterior pocket for storing travel documents; from £189 (antler.co.uk).

It's all Greek

If you missed out on Greece this summer – the nation is coming to London's South Bank next weekend. "Greece Is The Word!", on Saturday 19 October, is a celebration of modern Greek culture at the Southbank Centre (bit.ly/GreeceWord).

Lounge launch

Plaza Premium Lounge will operate an independent executive lounge in Heathrow's new Terminal 2 when it opens next June. The lounge will be open to all on payment of a fee (plaza-network.com).
