This week: The doors will be opening at the Hotel Gansevoort's new outpost on Park Avenue in New York on Monday. The sibling of the Gansevoort Meatpacking District will boast a rooftop pool and lounge, Italian restaurant and spa (gansevoortpark.com).

In the diary: The no-frills airline Iceland Express is permanently extending its seasonal service from Gatwick to New York. The flights to Newark airport stop in Reykjavik (icelandexpress.com). And in Dorset, the Serenata Festival claims to be Britain's first classical music festival and will welcome artists such as Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson to the Jurassic Coast from 26-28 August (serenatafestival.com).
