The island of Burano in Venice will resound with music. The first Burano Suona festival takes place this weekend in Mazzorbetto Park, with a free programme of Venetian ska, jazz and classical music (comune.venezia.it).

From Monday until 8 August, Ryanair will not operate scheduled flights to Pau. The airport is closing to upgrade its runway and landing systems. Flights will be re-routed to Lourdes, 50km south-east of Pau; a free coach shuttle is offered (ryanair.com).

In Amsterdam, the highlight of the Pride Festival (Thursday until 2 August) is the canal parade, which draws thousands of spectators to Prisengracht on 1 August to see a flamboyant collection of 100 boats (amsterdamgaypride.nl).

On Friday, Le Gray hotel opens in Beirut. Owned and designed by Gordon Campbell Gray, it has views of the Mediterranean and Mount Lebanon, chic interiors and a rooftop restaurant (campbellgray hotels.com).

In the diary...

The Brecon Jazz Festival, 7-9 August, features Seth Lakeman, Courtney Pine, and a Jazz for Juniors event (breconjazz.org). And easyJet is now selling Spring 2010 seats from most UK bases for travel before 30 June next year.
