The Chic Collection is a new online portal for booking boutique hotels.

Where to go and what to know

1. C'est chic!

The Chic Collection is a new online portal for booking boutique hotels. Browsers can choose from a range of catagories – "spachic" for sybriates, "hide&chic" for those who want to get away from it all – to find their perfect holiday retreat, be it a game reserve in South Africa or a design-led villa in Bali.

2. Hold on

The Eros Collection is a new casual range of luggage by British brand Antler, which features six canvas and leather travel companions, ranging from the overnight bag (£179) to the toiletry case (£49) and folio wallet (£69) for storing all your passports and documents.

3. Latin flavour

After 25 years, The Explorations Company is expanding with a new tailormade travel arm, dedicated to Latin America. South American Explorations will cover holidays to Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and more. Choose from jaguar spotting in the Amazon to a helicopter ride over Belize's Blue Hole.

4. Thai life

Nikki Beach has opened a new beach club and restaurant in Phuket, adding to its 10 existing locations that span from Miami Beach to Marbella. Much like the other properties it will offer a mix of poolside entertainment, dining, music and drinks, but this time beside the Andaman Sea. A hotel will follow next year.

5. Team spirit

The Brazil Pop Up Diner visits 12 Fifa World Cup host cities between March and June. Diners will be treated to a three-course lunch or dinner on Sundays at The Bedford and Strand in London, starting with Recife on 9 March. Expect cachaça-based cocktails, regional music and goody bags; £35.

6. Going Yoko

Plan ahead for a spring break in Bilbao, where Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum will open a retrospective dedicated to Yoko Ono from 14 March. With 200 installations, films and photographs, it will delve into the life of the avant-garde musician, artist and muse.

7. French fancy

If you're hankering for a holiday in France, consider Le Mas des Oules. The new collection of eight rustic-chic self-catering cottages is located in the Languedoc, close to Uzès. The owners, Emma and Michael Crane, are Londoners and interiors feature 1950's botanical charts and vintage school posters. Nightly from €100.

8. Air apparent

BBC2 starts showing The Travel Show from Friday morning at 10.10am. The programme is a development of the long-running Fast:Track show from BBC World News. Destinations for 2014 include the Maldives, New Zealand, Mexico and Burma. Presenters will include Paralympic host, Ade Adepitan.
