The Malaysian island of Pulau Gaya, off the coast of Sabah in Borneo, is cloaked in rainforest, pocketed with caves and encircled by an iridescent sea. From Sunday, this exotic isle becomes even more enticing as the Gaya Island Resort (from the group that runs Tanjong Jara and Pangkor Laut) opens with 121 villas and suites, three restaurants and a spa village set in the mangroves. Trouble in Thailand
