Today: Book into the new Eventi hotel in New York. Kimpton Hotels' latest unveiling is in north Chelsea in a striking glass tower and features masculine Manhattan design, a spa and, from the autumn, a contemporary Basque restaurant ( ).

This week: From tomorrow, American Airlines commences a daily summer route between Manchester and New York JFK ( ). Back in Britain, there's plenty to celebrate in Cumbria. From Wednesday to next Sunday, the Keswick Mountain Festival packs in wild swimming, mountain biking, a fell race, a "meet the experts" theatre and "dine in a mine" event ( ). On Thursday, a roving Wish You Were Here exhibition sets off from Cockermouth in support of the Lake District's recovery from last year's floods. Eighty celebrities, including Jon Snow, Griff Rhys Jones and Dame Judy Dench have written postcards for Cumbria, which will be exhibited until 2 June ( ).
