Today: The Blackman Hotel opens on St Kilda Road in Melbourne, named after the figurative painter Charles Blackman. The bright, luxurious rooms feature work by the Sydney-born artist, with bicycles for hire to explore the vicinity (artserieshotels.com.au/Blackman). On the Wiltshire Downs, the Camping with Pigs festival is on until tomorrow, with live music, real ales and food on the pig-filled Eastbrook Farm (royaloakbishopstone.co.uk).
This week: Copenhagen now has more Michelin stars than Rome or Milan and celebrates its gastronomic credentials with a Cooking Festival from this Friday until Sunday 29 August. Restaurants will hold special gourmet events, there will be cooking sessions for children, show kitchens, talks and markets galore (copenhagencooking.dk).
In the diary: Air Berlin is launching a new route from Stansted to Salzburg in time for the – Dare we say it? – Christmas market, from 2 December. The flights will operate on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (airberlin. com). And The Savoy is now accepting reservations for stays from 10 October.
