For £30 you can take an instant, intensive course in Arabic, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, French and German ( thelanguageshow.co.uk). If boats are more your thing, the Cruise Show is at the NEC Birmingham, with two days of talks from leading experts, inspiration and advice for trips on anything from river to luxury and family cruises, plus an Elemis spa treatment bus ( cruisingshow.co.uk).
The world's largest consumer winter sports event, the Ski & Snowboard Show, runs from 20 to 24 October at Olympia in London and aims to recreate "the mountain atmosphere".
