On Tuesday, a new route opens up between Luton and Forli, Emilia Romagna, courtesy of Windjet ( volawindjet.it ). On Wednesday, two new hotels open: the Satemwa Ulendo Lodges on a tea estate in Malawi ( ulendo.net/lodges ) and Il Salviatino, a villa overlooking Florence ( salviatino.com ). On Friday, this year's Darwin commemorations continue apace in Shrewsbury at Shift Time: A Festival of Ideas ( shift-time.org.uk ). Also on Friday, the Garden Festival starts in Petrcane, Croatia with music from Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay and boat parties ( thegardenfestival.eu ).

The Smithsonian Institute's major exhibition, Encompassing the Globe, will be temporarily relocated to the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon from 9 July to October. It will display over 200 items exchanged between the Portuguese and countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas in the 16th and 17th centuries ( mnarteantiga-ipmuseus.pt ).
