Weekly hotel openings roundup - China, Scotland and Brussels
Friday 10 September 2010
The past two weeks saw new hotels opening all over the world, including a restored landmark on Shanghai's famous Bund, CitizenM's first expansion outside of Amsterdam and Aloft's arrival in Europe.
Park Inn Oslo Airport
Rezidor's new 300-room airport hotel is only 20 minutes from Oslo city center by train and offers king, queen or double bed, free wireless internet access, flat screen HD televisions and the Red Bar and Grill restaurant.
Aloft Brussels Schumann
Aloft's first hotel in Europe signals the start of a wider expansion for the brand in the region. The Aloft Brussels Schumann offers 147 loft-like guest rooms, a "buzzing bar scene" in the lobby bar, a fitness center, grab-and-go snack bar and free wireless internet access.
Holiday Inn & Suites North Beach
Virginia Beach, VI, USA
Fresh from the multimillion dollar refurbishment, the new Holiday Inn & Suites North Beach reopened this week offering 238 guest rooms and 83 oceanfront suites. Young guests can play in Spash Kamp and Splish Splash Lagoon, while parents enjoy the three restaurants, whirlpool or fitness center.
Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Funky hotel chain CitizenM's first property outside Amsterdam opened in Glasgow September 9, offering 198 rooms in the heart of the city center. Standing eight storeys tall, the "affordable luxury" property features CitizenM's trademark lobby snack bar and self check-in kiosks, as well as king-size beds, wall-to-wall windows, mood pads (an all-in-one device that controls everything from free on-demand movies to wake-up calls), power rain showers, and Sealy mattresses.
Waldorf Astoria on the Bund
This legendary property reopened this week following an extensive renovation which has seen it returned to its former glory. Once a landmark in Shanghai, the hotel has kept many of its original English Renaissance-style features, including the Long Bar, once the longest bar in the world, and the Grand Ballroom.
