1. Head for Battersea Park today, where dog owners will be taking part in Born Free's Walk for Wolves. Put your pooch through its paces while raising awareness about the plight of the Ethiopian wolf, right, and you might even tangle leads with Jenny Seagrove, who will be joining the 2pm walk. 3. Recycle New from Old! takes place at the National Museum of Costume, Dumfriesshire, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Bring your old knitwear and transform it into something special using felting, crocheting and weaving techniques. Charges apply (nms.ac.uk).

4. The National Trust is allowing free entry to its properties on Saturday as part of Heritage Open Day and visitors to Wallington in Northumberland can also take advantage of a Go Green family day. Learn about the mansion's carbon footprint project and gather information on green living. There's plenty to amuse the kids, too, including some conjuring by an environmental magician (nationaltrust.org.uk).

5. Help the planet at the Lifestyle Green Show at Castle Espie, Co Down, from Saturday. Try out the Triangle Room, constructed from recycled products and hemp that will remain when the show finishes. You'll leave clutching a free tree and energy-saving light bulb (wwt.org.uk).
