The UK is home to more award-winning zoos than any other European country in 2014

TripAdvisor has drawn together thousands of votes, ratings and comments from their international community to produce a list of the ten best zoos in the UK.

It would seem that North West England is the place to go for award-winning zoological action with four zoos in the winning ten:  Chester Zoo, Blackpool Zoo, Knowsley Safari in Liverpool, and South Lakes Safari Zoo in Dalton-in-Furness.

Chester Zoo has enjoyed resounding success, winning first place in the UK polls and losing out only to Tenerife’s Loro Parque on a European scale – but they are aware the hard work is not over. Jamie Christon, managing director at Chester Zoo, commented: “we’re always evolving and offering visitors...bigger and better experiences.” In keeping with their strong conservational ethics, 2015 will see the opening of the ambitious new islands project, giving visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the ecosystems of the Philippines and Indonesia.
