The Tolkien Trail, Lancashire
'This is the first route I researched for Countryfile magazine and I'd love to walk it again one day,' says Jo. 'The Tolkien Trail begins in the hamlet of Hurst Green and skirts the boundary of Stonyhurst College, where JRR Tolkien spent many years writing The Lord of the Rings while his son John studied for the priesthood. One of the loveliest sections is a loop of the River Hodder. In summer, the gnarly, overhanging trees create shady spots to while away an hour or two as you dip your toes in the river.'
