Cuillin Ridge, Isle of Skye
'The Cuillin Ridge is the preserve of serious hill-walkers and rock-climbers, but it's also possible for mere mortals to sample its mountain grandeur,' says David. 'Start at the Sligachan Hotel and follow the path southwards along the floor of the glen, as the mountains rise up on either side. A popular spot to aim for is the twin lakes of Lochan Dubha. Summer is a good time for this walk, as the streams crossing the path are much higher in winter.'
