Lochan Mountain Walk, Glencoe
Two words sum up Glencoe's raw grandeur: bleak and brooding. History hangs heavy here; however, there also patches of prettiness. For an easy ramble rather than a munro-bagging schlep head to the Forestry Commission car park just over the bridge from the village and choose one of three short waymarked trails to the Lochan, a manmade lake surrounded by trees and rhododendrons, created by Lord Strathcona for his homesick Canadian wife, Isabella.
