Church Stretton, Shropshire
Start in Victorian spa town, Church Stretton, and walk east into open countryside known locally as 'Little Switzerland'. Climb up to deserted Cym's Cottage and the Alpine atmosphere intensifies. The climb up Caer Caradoc, 1,500 feet of Pre-Cambrian rock topped by an Iron Age hill fort where Caractacus made his final stand, gives sweeping views along the Long Mynd westwards.
