Castle Combe, the Cotswolds
'The southern part of Cotswolds - mostly in Wiltshire - is quieter than the classic chocolate-box areas to the north,' says David. A good route for winter starts in the handsome village of Castle Combe, then follows paths along the By Brook valley down to the hamlet of Ford, where the White Hart makes a good lunch-stop. Return by the same route, or on higher paths through woods on the other side of the valley.
