Luxembourg

28 June - 27 July 44th International Festival of Open-Air Theatre and Music. Takes place in the Wiltz amphitheatre. World-famous artists take part in a variety of productions from Shakespeare to Verdi and Bach.

Barbados

29 June - 4 August Crop Over Festival. This is the highlight of the Annual Cultural Calendar in Barbados. Enjoy the community atmosphere in this celebration of the traditional end of the sugar cane harvest.

Belgium

1 and 3 July Ommegang, in the impressive Grand'Place, Brussels. A re- enactment of the 16th-century festival in honour of the Emperor Charles V and his family. Descendants of the nobles of the original festival act out the play in period costumes.

Canada

4-13 July World Folklore Festival, Drummondville. Streets and parks are transformed as folk dancers and singers from 18 countries perform in this town to the north-east of Montreal.

Denmark

2-6 July Central Funen Festival, Ringe. The 22nd season for one of the country's main festivals of rock and folk. There is music on three stages, along with a fairground and shops. International stars Sting and David Bowie will be performing.

Zurich

28 June - 20 July Zurich Festival, a combination of opera, ballet, theatre, concerts and exhibits. Highlights include the first Swiss production of Puccini's Le Villi and celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Schubert's death.

Indonesia

4,5,18,21 July Ramayana Ballet, Prambanan, Java. This traditional dance drama is performed by around 200 dancers and is based on the Ramayana which are classic Hindu epics. The Hindu temples and Merapi volcano are a spectacular backdrop to the open-air stage.

Ireland

29 June - 6 July West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Bantry House. The opening concert celebrates the various anniversaries of Schubert, Brahms and Mendelssohn and the festival continues in a similar vein.

Singapore

1-31 July Singapore Food Festival. The aim of this festival is to showcase and promote Singapore(left) as a gastronomer's paradise. The theme this year is New Asia, a fusion of Asian and Western cuisine.

Austria

28 June - 10 July Vienna Alive With Jazz. Concert performances at the beautiful and atmospheric State Opera. Special appearances by George Benson, Bobby McFerrin and Dionne Warwick.
