My old chum Stan Trochee, the Bard of Burscough, is extremely upset that Physics World was unaware of his last collection, On The Bench, from which I take 'Atom Smashers':

Quark. I wonder what

rhymes with Quark?

Lark. A bird that soars like

my heart

When I hear someone say:

Quark.

Let's face it, quarks are basic
