Catch 8a
PHILIP Leach of Liberty is no doubt correct in referring to Article 8a of the EC Treaty as providing "every EU citizen with the right to move and reside freely within member states" (Letters, 24 September).
However, should not immigration officials satisfy themselves that anyone seeking entry into the UK is indeed an EU citizen? They may therefore be entitled to insist on seeing a valid passport or similar document.
Not very useful, then after all, that Article 8a, for re-entry.
