This is not the end - the NRA will not win

I was in Tucson that day to thank Gabby Giffords for voting for the affordable healthcare act. I was the last one in line waiting to speak to her when the shooting started. The woman next to me was the last one shot before Jared Loughner ran out of bullets – when his gun jammed it gave Roger Salzgeber and Bill Badger a moment to attack him.

I had got down on the pavement to protect myself and they knocked him down on top of me. I was able to get the third magazine out of his hands before he put it in the gun and to hold on to his legs until the police came.

I’m angry at what happened in the Senate on Wednesday, and as we were leaving I shouted out “shame on you”. I don’t hold a grudge against the people who escorted me from the building – I was treated very well and I understand they were just doing their jobs. But this is not the end. We are going to continue working hard for gun control – the NRA and the gun lobby will not win. We will be working to get legislation enacted – and we will be working to rid our Congress of those senators who voted against the bill. They are an embarrassment to our country, they don’t have any compassion.

In my opinion, the NRA is not interested in gun safety and in gun  education like it used to be. I think they are interested in selling guns and making money and that is all. I would like to thank President Obama for his hard work and for promoting this legislation. I would love this to be his legacy – making America a safer place.
