The golden Gate. The Mostar. The Clifton suspension. There's something about a bridge that fires the imagination and pulls in the crowds in a way other big transport projects can't. (When did you last hear someone praising the Dartford Tunnel?) And the Millau viaduct is surely destined to become one of France's favourite monuments. At 343 metres high, it's actually taller than the Eiffel Tower.

According to the Millau's designer, our very own Lord Foster: "Crossing a bridge gives you a sense of spiritual elevation. Looking at a bridge should be a moving experience." Sounds just the ticket. Just one thing though; the "moving experience" doesn't mean a "wobble" does it?
