On 9 August we highlighted the plight of more than one million Sudanese affected by what the UN describes as the world's worst humanitarian disaster. Today we report an outstanding response from you, our readers. In just 10 days you have donated more than £150,000 - an astonishing amount by any standards, especially at holiday time when so many are tuned out of the news. We have long known that Independent readers are extraordinary - one glance at our Letters page is the proof. We also know that you take a particular interest in international affairs. For your generosity to the victims of Darfur, we express our thanks.
