Judging by the number of statuettes alone, Daniel Day-Lewis woke up this morning the greatest actor ever to have lived.

His third 'Best Actor' win, for a riveting performance as 16th American president Abraham Lincoln, puts him above the eight other men with two - including Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson.

The 55-year-old's other two victories came after starring roles in My Left Foot (1989) and There Will Be Blood (2007).

But do you think Day-Lewis' pre-eminence in the Academy makes him the best actor ever? If not, who should it be?
