Or not "speak" exactly - we'll leave that to the talking dog on YouTube - but certainly to understand a wider range of words.

According to an article on wired.co.uk, scientists have discovered that while humans leans to associate words with objects by comparing objects visually, dogs are more likely to employ their other senses, specifically "bite size and felt texture were major sources of information".

What's the upshot? Well, if you want your dog to learn to fetch your slippers when you ask, you're going to have to put up with some well-chewed slippers.
