Ivanka Trump’s credentials to champion women’s rights are no more valid than Kim Kardashian’s

Promoted by her father as an assistant, the ‘First Daughter’ has been at his side meeting foreign leaders and cleverly wears her own clothing line for photo opportunities

Nearly 100 million people follow reality star Kim Kardashian on Instagram (nothing better to do?) – so she’ll hardly notice the 100,000 who’ve dumped her in the last couple of days after unretouched pictures of her famous rear were posted online. On her Instagram feed, Kim’s physique always appears strangely smooth and perfect – whereas in real life, it seems she has the same dimples and cellulite as a normal earthling.

Is Miss K a charlatan selling a myth or a clever marketeer? After all, she’s made a fortune selling everything from ashtrays to pool floats in the shape of her buttocks and exposure is paramount – this furore draws even more attention to her generous proportions and could even be stage-managed.

Piers Morgan (that paragon of virtue) is outraged that her “real” bottom “bares no relation to the perfectly proportioned, super-smooth, cellulite-free vision of glory she sells to the world”, and writes that he’s dumped her for good – but Kim seems unconcerned, describing her body as “flawless”. An ITV campaign called Body Confidence launches next week so I can’t wait to hear what Piers Morgan (also employed by ITV) has to say about the giant billboards of nine semi-clothed Loose Women, me included which are being unveiled around the country.

As for role models, contrast Kim’s confident approach with that of Ivanka Trump – who spent last week representing the USA at the Women20 summit in Berlin, an event promoting women’s rights – looking like a frightened deer stuck in headlights. Promoted by her father as an assistant, the “First Daughter” has been at his side meeting foreign leaders and cleverly wears her own clothing line for photo opportunities. Like the much-praised Michelle Obama, Ivanka is unelected. I applaud her skills as a businesswoman, but her credentials to champion women’s rights are no more valid than the savvy opportunist Kim Kardashian.
