I am sure your Scottish readers will take you to task for omitting any history of the Order of the Thistle, but I am surprised that you did not mention the honours awarded to aspiring Sir Humphreys, those in the Order of St Michael and St George ("Going for a gong? Don't bother", 15 December). These come as Commander (CMG), Knight Commander (KCMG) and Knight Grand Cross (GCMG), known in the trade as "Call Me God", "Kindly Call Me God" and "God Calls Me God".
