Letter: A one-track mind

Sir: Leslie Wilson cites Isambard Kingdom Brunel as a model for the present 'pathetic and dithering administration' of the proposed rail link to Europe. But he omits to mention that it was Brunel's insistence on the broad gauge for the GWR that brought the company to its knees when conversion to our present gauge was forced upon it.

Genius though Brunel was, in this case he would have done better to heed the objectors' arguments.

Yours faithfully,

R. A. HACK
