WHILE A number of animal welfare groups may claim that the BBC has shown bias against them over its coverage of the hunting debate ("Animal groups accuse BBC of bias", 28 November), I suggest that these groups have, in fact, been major beneficiaries of the BBC (and, indeed, the other TV networks). Thirty-odd years of stunning television wildlife documentaries and the more pets 'n' vets programmes have together served to anthropomorphise animal life to the extent that the UK is now pervaded by a noxious animal sentimentalism, which in turn, is largely responsible for filling the coffers of these animal welfare organisations. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!
