Letter: Anti-Semitism in Wagner's music

Sir: Regarding Hitler's love of Wagner's music, I have been puzzled why the Fuhrer put so much faith in the composer of the Ring des Nibelungen. Surely, the complete destruction of Valhalla in Gotterdammerung should have alerted him to the fate of Germany which, like its counterpart, went up in flames at the conclusion of the Second World War.

Yours faithfully,
