Letter: Bevin Boys remember life down the pits

Sir: During the war a Bevin Boy from Dunstable lodged with my parents when he was 'conscripted' to work at nearby Newstead colliery in Nottinghamshire. He couldn't have been too unhappy as he stayed with us for more than nine years and only left when he married a local girl. He continued working down the pit until he retired.
