Letter: Briefly

I APPRECIATE Mike Rumble's point (Letters, 9 August) with regard to the use of CS spray. However, as I understand it, PC Nina MacKay discarded her protective clothing before dealing with a "dangerous mentally ill offender". Should she not have given some thought to her own safety? Why blame the mentally ill who, by definition, are not aware of the consequences of their actions?
