GERALD Kaufman is talking through his hat when he says that 'even with the cost of post and packaging, it is cheaper to import CDs from the US' ('MPs to Look at CD Prices', 27 December). The CD will cost, typically, dollars 16.98, add dollars 2 postage (surface mail) and you have dollars 18.98 or pounds 12.24. Add pounds 1.50-pounds 1.75 VAT and duty and the final cost is at least pounds 13.75.
