Letter: Britain slow to take its place in a 'multi-speed' Europe

Sir: It is ironic that, by refusing to allow the people a voice in deciding the future of Britain's sovereignty and place in Europe through a referendum, the main political parties are now asking us to vote for them - on Europe. But on 9 June we have one opportunity, so let us keep the vote simple and only vote for parties that fully support a referendum on Europe.

Britain's future as a sovereign state will be decided at the Inter- Governmental Conference in 1996, so we only have two years left in which to get the major parties to listen to our views.
