Sir: The Reverend Patrick Bronte died in 1861 and printing machines with keyboards were not invented till the 1880s. Lord Kilbracken's theory about the name Bronte cannot be sustained (Letters, 26 March).

Yours faithfully,

JOHN FAULLS
