Letter: Building a decent society

Sir: Hooray! Just when one thinks the worst of human nature a pleasant surprise comes along. The vote by Nationwide Building Society members to maintain its mutual status shows that a majority can still be found to repulse the "get rich quick" spivs.

Perhaps this result, together with the election of a new government, heralds the turning of the corner after nearly two decades of "me first, last and always". Could the "decent society" be more than a politician's soundbite?
