Letter: Cheaper CDs
JOHN COX (Letters, 3 January) accuses Gerald Kaufman of talking through his hat when he states that it is cheaper to import CDs from the United States than to buy them domestically. Far from CDs costing 'typically dollars 16.98' in the US, most retail for dollars 11 to dollars 13 with new releases often discounted by dollars 1. It is not uncommon for UK-produced CDs to be available in the US for less than the domestic UK price.
