Letter: Children bring life to village

I READ with interest the article 'Celebs wage class war in Chilterns' (14 August). I, like many others, work in the holiday camps provided by the Children's Country Holidays Fund charity mentioned. We give our time and energy for free to provide the chance of a holiday away from inner London for these children, who would otherwise have none.

Those who think that the children will wreak havoc of some sort are misguided. The children, who are between nine and 12 years old, are boisterous, raw and energetic. They may bring noise to the village but they also bring life - and great rewards. Not everyone wants to be involved in community projects, but I find it profoundly sad that some actively discourage such charity for wholly selfish and blinkered reasons.
