LETTER: Churchill's papers

Sir: I would like to put the record straight about the precise ownership of the Churchill Papers ("Dream machine that seduced a nation", 13 November).

As we emphasised at the time of the announcement, the Government-owned official or state papers within the collection, including Crown Copyright where applicable, were not included in the purchase price. The price, paid by the Heritage Lottery Fund and J Paul Getty KBE, reflected the value of the private and literary papers alone.
