I COULDN'T agree more with Fiona Bell (Flat Earth, 2 May). Shame on the World Society for the Protection of Animals for drawing our attention to the horrendous suffering inflicted on animals in Kosovo.

Animals are for eating, riding, pulling carts and, most importantly, acting as useful target practice for sadistic soldiers. We humans are the top of the totem. Once we start thinking other creatures have feelings and, God forbid, rights, we're on the slippery slope to compassion.
