Letter: Economic dangers of tobacco subsidies

Sir: Tobacco advertising bans 'have led to rise in smoking' (report, 30 January). Banning all tobacco advertisements should therefore appeal to cigarette manufacturers and satisfy anti-smoking campaigners. Why not implement the ban and make everyone, with the possible exception of the advertising industry, happy?
