Letter: Explaining the floods

Sir: With lunatic logic, some people argued that the York Minster fire was a sign of God's anger against the Bishop of Durham. A local clergyman claimed that the Sainsbury's fire at Chichester last month was proof of the Almighty's disapproval of Sunday trading. How should we explain the floods? Are they:

(a) the answer to our prayers a year ago that the hidden river Lavant would flow again? Or

(b) convincing evidence that God has put a damper on the Bishop of Chichester's views on the ordination of women?

Whichever theory you prefer, we seem to be suffering from a severe case of divine over-reaction.

Yours sincerely,

ANNE SERRAILLIER

Chichester, West Sussex
