Letter: Explaining the league tables

Sir: What stands out as one casts one's eye over the School Exam League Tables is how exceptionally well girls perform in a single-sex environment. More girls' schools are top of their LEA than mixed or boys' schools.

Does this suggest that given appropriate resources, women would bring up children better on their own, women priests minister better beyond the authority of male bishops, etc? No doubt other factors come into these things, but the remarkable academic performance of single-sex girls' schools deserves careful analysis.

Yours faithfully,

BELINDA JACK
