Sir: With regard to the wide discrepancy in pay between those at the top of any organisation and those at the bottom, I suggest it becomes the norm for those at the top to earn no more than 10 times the amount of those at the bottom, including perks and share options. (The last would not, of course, apply to private companies as they do not issue shares.)
This would give all the workers in an enterprise a common purpose. It would be of great benefit to the economy and to social cohesion by helping to eliminate the poverty in which 30 per cent of our nation is trapped.
