Letter: First-rate taxis

Sir: I am writing to express my disappointment at some of your advertising copy promoting your recent "Win a cab or a cabriolet" competition, in which you jokily deride black-cab drivers.

We in London are very lucky to have such a first-rate taxi service, which I am sure you will find is endorsed by nearly everyone who has experience of taxi cabs from all over the world. The training drivers have to undergo, and the strict controls placed upon them, ensure the service provided is excellent.

As anyone who has had the misfortune to ride with one of the unlicensed cowboy "touts" who plague London's night life will tell you, that is what a "terrifying journey" is really like.

Yours in disappointment,

A. J. WILLIAMS

London, SW1
