Letter: God's chosen

I Read "Praying for a good school..." (Real Life, 16 March) with amusement and a growing sense of unease. The schools in question are paid for in whole or in part by public money, yet churches control access to them. What would be the reaction if the head of a successful state school decided that he would only admit children whose parents could prove that they were regular attendants at (say) Wimbledon Football Club's home games? It might do wonders for the gate at Selhurst Park but it would be a misuse of public funds, and so is this. School places funded by taxpayers should not be prizes to be given away by religious organisations.
