Letter: Jet-lagged monuments

Sir: Your Diary report (30 March) that opera has been banned from the Caracalla Baths because of the effect of musical vibrations on the structure contrasts remarkably with the complacency with which our powers-that-be allow low-flying jets, many below the permitted 250ft level, to thunder repeatedly over ancient national monuments such as Warkworth Castle. I and other local inhabitants have registered many, many complaints with the Ministry of Defence to no avail - but that's another (long) story.

Yours faithfully,

Warkworth, Northumberland
