Sir: If the possibility of a reduction in the pounds 10 prizes for three winning lottery numbers is indeed as "very remote" as Camelot states (report, 7 March), then the chance of Camelot having to pay out some extra money is equally remote. They are in the gambling business, the heart of which is that you win some and you lose some. The skill is to set the odds so that you make a reasonable return in the long run.

It is not gambling when the book is so arranged that it cannot ever lose on a transaction.
